What is National Service?
National Service engages individuals in full-time service for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. More than five million Americans participate in service each year through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and AmeriCorps VISTA. The Foundation partners with the Corporation for National and Community Service as well as the Minnesota Alliance with Youth to engage AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA members in service to support academic supports for Saint Paul Public School students.

Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation AmeriCorps and Volunteers-in-Service-to-America (VISTA) members are inspiring and innovative individuals who are dedicated to helping Saint Paul eliminate the persisting achievement gap.

What do we do?
Members serve in multiple sites across St. Paul to bring high-quality, best practice tutoring to scale as an intentional academic intervention to increase student achievement for students attending the Saint Paul Public Schools.Over the past three years our VISTAs have recruited over 1,500 tutors who have dedicated over 15,000 hours of tutoring to students of St. Paul!

Service Positions:
School-based Tutoring Coordinators:
- Work with school administrators, teachers and staff to develop and manage a school-based tutoring program for under achieving students.
- Increase both the quantity and quality of volunteer tutors and community partnerships that support the tutoring program.
- Ensure that students are receiving high quality tutoring by working towards 100% implementation of the SPPS Foundation Tutoring Program Best Practices.

Tutoring Partnership Volunteer Coordinator:
- Works with Foundation staff, district administration, as well as community-based and school-based tutoring partners to build a volunteer management system that improves the effectiveness and quality of volunteer support.
- Increases both the quantity and quality of volunteers tutoring in Saint Paul Public schools through city-wide recruitment, placement, training, and recognition efforts.
- Supports Tutoring Partners’ ability to implement effective volunteer tutoring mangament practices in line with the SPPS Foundation Tutoring Program Best Practices.

Saint Paul Public Schools VISTA Leader*:
- Works with Foundation staff, district administration, and school personnel to support coordinators goal of 100% implementation of Tutoring Best Practices.
- Supports the professional and project development of all members through regular 1:1 meetings, trainings, and resource development.
- Manages and track VISTA member activities, schedule foundation trainings, and organize VISTA member involvement in Foundation events
